Link Choi

The familiar visual vocabulary of religious paintings is displaced by the enigmatic symbols of an intensely personal mythology. Link takes classic legends, bible stories and fables and re-interprets them in contemporary form with a vibrant creative insight that brings the characters to life. He believes these epic and ancient stories belong to all people of all cultures, and that there is a thread of universal truth that connects them; they share the defining elements of the human experience.
Link is part of a new generation of artists bringing digital effects into the arena of fine art. One such effect involves scanning his skilful gestural sketches into a computer and using digital brush strokes, drawing on traditional painting techniques, to build up breathtaking digital paintings.
His methods of working are in perfect synchronicity with his content; traditional legends are modernised, and painted using modernised traditional techniques. The bringing together of the digital and fine art worlds liberates each from their preconceptions, just as bringing ancient fables and stories to us with a contemporary twist liberates the stories from their romanticism and restores to the epic characters their relatable punch. The results are beautiful paintings that hold deep and reflective truths, presented with all the perceptive curiosity of Link’s joyfully creative take on life.

Judith

Ye shall stand this night in the gate, and I will go forth with my waiting woman: and within the days that ye have promised to deliver the city to our enemies the Lord will visit Israel by mine hand. But enquire not ye of mine act: for I will not declare it unto you, till the things be finished that I do.
