Katie Thornton
Intention and Improvisation

7 - 9 December (3 days only)

Thornton is interested in the variation, difference and genesis that are stimulated through working within a structured process. The resulting works constitute a vigorous experience of colour, paint, gesture and thought. As Newman (2003) states ‘What is registered when looking at a drawing (painting) is the continual oscillation between stillness (constancy) and action (change).’

In the rhythmic play of pulses and pauses, acts and intervals, motions and stillness, the work is infused with a dynamic vibrant energy; and a quiet still reflection. This emulates the motions and contemplations that occur in the act of making and engages perception and sensation in the making and viewing of the work.
