"My body of work tries to question the binds of postmodernism, holding that all stances are unstable & insincere, & therefore irony, parody & humour are the only positions that cannot be overturned by critique or revision.

I am continually looking at the Renaissance & the Baroque, with their often emotive representations of the spiritual dimension.
The belief & use attached to certain religious images issues a challenge.

The sentiment, the sincerity I have not wanted to divorce, the use of emotion being the window to a deeper level of power.
I have wanted to explore this with the personal element of struggle & doubt, which is part of the human existence, & anchor it within a contemporary context".

a'Court succeeds in the very difficult task of portraying the anguish of the spiritual search together with the fruit of that search, the places of stillness, acceptance and peace, even while the world around is in turmoil. a'Court has been a full time painter for some 12 years.
